Frequently Asked Questions
What happens during the free phone consultation?
You and I will briefly discuss any issues that you are currently looking to work on. This is also a good opportunity for you to see if I'm a "good fit" for you and your needs, as well as ask any additional questions you may have.
What is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is a form of treatment that is designed to help you address your concerns, resolve difficulties, come to a greater understanding of yourself, and learn effective personal and interpersonal coping strategies. At its’ core is a therapeutic relationship between you, as the client, and I, as the therapist, working together to help you accomplish your individual goals. This partnership works in part because of clearly defined rights and responsibilities held by each party. As your therapist, I will contribute my knowledge, expertise, and clinical skills. You, as the client, have a responsibility to bring an attitude of collaboration and a commitment to the therapeutic process.
What can I hope to achieve in therapy?
There are many benefits to engaging in therapy. Some of these include gaining insight or a better understanding of oneself, identifying life goals, improved personal relationships, development of coping skills and problem-solving abilities, addressing problem behaviors, and increased self-esteem. I will work with you throughout this process and offer insight to an issue you may be struggling with. The benefit that you obtain will ultimately depend on your level of commitment to the process.
How long will therapy take?
There is no specific time frame when working on personal development and growth. Depending on the type of changes that you are looking to make and the variety of issues that you wish to address, therapy can last from a few sessions to much longer. Some people find therapy to be extremely beneficial and choose to make it a long-term process.
Do you accept insurance?
At this time, I am paneled with Aeta, Cigna & Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia. For out of network clients, I am happy to provide clients with a "super bill" to submit to their insurance company for potential reimbursement.
What if I can't afford your full fee?
For clients who cannot afford my full fee, we have a limited number of appointments available at a sliding scale. Our sliding scale is determined and decided on a case-by-case basis.
Does what we talk about in therapy remain confidential?
Confidentiality is the cornerstone of psychotherapy. Your verbal and written communication with me is held in the strictest confidence and will only be disclosed to other parties if you sign a written consent. I am legally mandated to make certain disclosures in cases where there is suspicion of harm to oneself, harm to others, or child abuse. All such disclosures will be discussed with you in advance.
Do you prescribe medication?
I am not a psychiatrist or medical doctor, so therefore, I do not prescribe medication. In some cases, medication can be be valuable in combination with psychotherapy. If I determine that you could benefit from meeting with a psychiatrist, I can assist with referring you to a provider that can meet your needs.
How do I start therapy?
I consider the first two to three sessions to be evaluation/assessment, during which time I am getting to know you, but in important ways you are getting to know me, too. Click the "Schedule An Appointment" button above or call me at 470-745-2199 to get started.
